KRISTEN + JAMES
We first met James years ago when we were all shooting the same wedding. You see, James is one half of the awesome VillaView Cinema, some of our absolute favourite videographers in the industry. We got along so well that first time, that every subsequent shoot we found ourselves on together was a bit of celebration. So it should come as no surprise that we were overjoyed when Kristen and James asked us to photograph their intimate rustic wedding last summer. It was so incredibly heartening that one of our peers was willing to put their faith in our fledgling company.
And despite any personal bias we may have had, it was a great wedding: a disarmingly candid ceremony filled with outpourings of emotion, a gorgeously decorated (by Kristen, no less!) barn as a wedding venue, some of the most beautiful summer light imaginable, and a small group of lovely guests on hand to celebrate the couple.
Everywhere I looked, there were interesting details to document. From a funky oar-porn rug in the couple's rental cottage, to the absolutely charming golden toy animals that served as table markers, every element told a micro story. When Kristen asked me to incorporate a fox blanket from the cottage into some of the pictures, I wound up with this rather unsettling wedding-ring detail. Apologies for the nightmare fuel.
But seriously, just look at these two. It's obvious that their union was the most natural thing, an unstoppable force. The comfort they seem to find in each other is absolutely palpable, and pretty much the most joyous thing to photograph.
